Tours of Conservation and Center for the Analysis of Archaeological Materials (CAAM) Labs at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Optional) Led by Julie Lawson, Conservator The University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (Penn Museum) has had a conservation lab since 1966, making it one of the earliest US Museums of this type to have a professional conservation staff. Hundreds of object (and other) conservators have received internship training in these labs over the last five decades. In 2014, the Conservation Laboratory underwent a major renovation, finally achieving a facility worthy of its history and the Museum’s extensive collections. ANAGPIC attendees are cordially invited to visit the renovated labs where Penn Museum Conservators and Interns will be available to answer questions about our facilities. You will also be able to visit our wildly successful public conservation lab, In the Artifact Lab: Conserving Egyptian Mummies, where a conservator works full time in a public gallery, engaging and educating Museum visitors about conservation. |
